Sphalerons at Finite Temperature

چکیده
We construct the sphaleron for several temperature dependent effective potentials. We determine the sphaleron energy as a function of temperature and demonstrate that the sphaleron energy at a given temperature T is well approximated by the sphaleron energy at temperature zero scaled by the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the Higgs field at temperatures T and zero. We address the cosmological upper bound on the Higgs mass. Univ. Mons-Hainaut-Preprint Univ. Utrecht Preprint THU-93/01 January 1993

Electroweak bubbles and sphalerons.
We consider non-perturbative solutions of the Weinberg-Salam model at finite temperature. We employ an effective temperature-dependent potential yielding a first order phase transition. In the region of the phase transition, there exist two kinds of static, spherically symmetric solutions: sphalerons and bubbles. We analyze these solutions as functions of temperature. We consider the most gener...
متن کاملA Confining Strong First-Order Electroweak Phase Transition
In the Randall-Sundrum model where the radion is stabilized by a Goldberger-Wise (GW) potential there is a supercooled transition from a deconfined to a confined phase at temperatures orders of magnitude below the typical Standard Model critical temperature. When the Higgs is localized at the IR brane the electroweak phase transition is delayed and becomes a strong first-order one where the Uni...
متن کاملSphalerons, spectral flow, and anomalies
The topology of configuration space may be responsible in part for the existence of sphalerons. Here, sphalerons are defined to be static but unstable finite-energy solutions of the classical field equations. Another manifestation of the nontrivial topology of configuration space is the phenomenon of spectral flow for the eigenvalues of the Dirac Hamiltonian. The spectral flow, in turn, is rela...

We consider pure SU (2) Yang-Mills theory when the space is compactified to a 3-dimensional sphere with finite radius. The Euclidean classical self-dual solutions of the equations of motion (the instantons) and the static finite energy solutions (the sphalerons) which have been found earlier are rewritten in handy physical variables with the gauge condition A 0 = 0. Stationary solutions to the ...
متن کاملTunneling through sphalerons: the O(3) σ-model on a cylinder
We construct all instantons for the O(3) σ-model on a cylinder, known not to exist on a finite time interval. We show that the widest instantons go through sphalerons. A reinterpretation of moduli-space transforms the scale parameter ρ to a boundary condition in time. This may give a handle on the ρ → 0 divergent instanton gas.
